<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
diverses langues (allemand, anglais, espagnol, français, italien, portugais).

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Brill, 2017 ; « The Persisting Spectre of Cultural Decline:
Historiographical Approaches to Muslim Scholarship in the Early Modern
Maghreb » in <em>The Journal of the Economic and Social History of the Orient</em>, 60 (2017): 142-173.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">
</span><div style="text-align: left;">

the Paris Centre for Migrant Writing and Expression.

<br />
<br />

Halbwachs (UMR 8097 – ENS/EHESS/CNRS).

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>Itinéraires transnationaux d’un intellectuel revivaliste musulman : </strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
A travers
politiques plurielles.<br />
<br />

The prefix <em>trans-</em>, more than any other marker, has been used to signify this displacement of politics. The prefix trans- now<em> </em>operates
in multiple compounds: transnational, transdisciplinarity, transgender,
transcultural and many more. It also expresses processes of
displacement such as translation, transition, transference or
transgression. This is perhaps because trans- evokes multiple meanings: <em>crossing
over, changing, moving between, passing through, over, to or on the
other side of, beyond, outside of, from one place, person, thing, or
state to another. </em><br />
We will be asking speakers to think through the modulation produced
by trans- in order to consider how it works between and across the
categories that shape our sense of the world and the disciplines of
study that make up its girders.<br />
<br />
The questions we will be addressing include:<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<ul>
<li>How do we find new ways of acting across/acting out/acting beyond?</li>
<li>How is the contemporary world becoming both de-territorialised and re-territorialised and are the two implicated in one another?</li>
<li>What are the current transformations of political community and its
principles of belonging? And how do laws and the state function in this
domain?</li>
<li>What are the effects on language and culture that are caused by shifting political dimensions and vice versa</li>
<li>What makes political responsiveness possible?</li>
</ul>
<h2>

Université Paris 8) et le Columbia Global Center in Paris (MA in HIstory
and LIterature), reprend ses rencontres mensuelles à partir de janvier
<br />
314.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

The University of London Institute in Paris and the University of
Kent Paris School of Arts and Culture are joining forces to bring the
Being Human Festival to Paris with a roundtable event "A Moveable Feast:
Being Human in Paris", with Professor Sarah Churchwell, director of the
Being Human Festival (School of Advanced Studies).<br />
This evening will be an opportunity to discuss the importance of
literature and the Humanities in the wake of the attacks in Paris one
year ago. After these events which turned spaces of festivity into
targets for acts of terror, people laid copies of Hemingway’s <i>Moveable Feast</i> on the improvised shrines dotted around the areas affected. The title in French - <i>Paris est une fête</i>
– stood out as a defiant refusal of the terror that had been unleashed
on the city. What does this turn to literature, and to a text written by
an American about the expatriate community in the Années Folles of the
interwar era, tell us about why literature remains a vital response to
violent ideologies?<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>We will address this question and the importance of
writing and translation in the heart of Hemingway’s old stamping ground
of Montparnasse, bringing French and British perspectives to the
question of why the Humanities help us be human better.<br />
The event is scheduled to take place at 6.30pm, Wednesday 23 November, at Reid Hall, Paris.<br />
<hr />
<h3>
Guest speakers</h3>
The event will feature contemporary British writer Joanna Walsh,
recently described by Deborah Levy as “fast becoming one of our most
important writers,” and Professor Claire Joubert, who leads the
“Poétique de l’étranger” programme and is author of numerous studies of
English and Anglophone literature at the intersection between poetics
and politics.<br />

<br />
<b>Calendrier 2016-2017</b> : <br />
. 19 novembre <br />
. 10 décembre<br />
. 14 janvier 2017<br />
. 11 février<br />
. 18 mars<br />
<br />
A préparer :<br />
<br />
<br />
