Bibliographie sur le postcolonial (oct. 2010)

Deux types de lecture permettent d'entrer dans le champ de réflexion de la Postcolonial theory et des Postcolonial studies anglophones : d'une part un petit nombre de textes fondateurs, qui sont des points de référence partagés par tous les chercheurs du champ, soit parce qu'ils en ont inauguré les questions majeures, soit parce qu'ils ont été une intervention capitale dans le débat sur ces questions ; et d'autre part des recueils de textes théoriques ou critiques, dont certains sont eux-mêmes devenus des ouvrages classiques, toujours largement évoqués dans les débats actuels, en raison de la qualité de leur travail de présentation et de synthèse, de leur mise en perspective historique et problématique, de leur cartographie des thèmes et questions, et des outils bibliographiques qu'ils rassemblent.
Ces premiers repères permettent ensuite de dégager des pistes de lecture plus spécialisées. J'indique également, plus loin, quelques uns des travaux qui me semblent dégager des horizons particulièrement intéressants.
Enfin, pour un tour d'horizon plus complet mais toujours à visée cartographique, la "bibliographie indicative" qui ouvre le volume de The Cambridge Companion to Postcolonial Literary Studies, volume coordonné par Neil Lazarus (2004), est un outil indispensable.

Le livre se présente comme un glossaire des concepts clés autour desquels le débat sur le postcolonial et la littérature d'élabore. Double usage donc : lecture linéaire pour une culture théorique de base, et consultation pour référence, y compris pour indications bibliographiques de further reading pour chacun des concepts traités.
. The Cambridge Companion to Postcolonial Literary Studies, Cambridge University Press, 2004. Ouvrage collectif dirigé par Neil Lazarus, qui constitue une excellent mise en perspective théorique des débats. L'ouvrage a été traduit en français en 2006 (sous le titre Penser le postcolonial. Une introduction critique, éditions Amsterdam, trad. Marianne Groulez, Christophe Jaquet et Hélène Quiniou). Un très bon compte rendu critique est donné de cette version française, et de ses implications pour un croisement des points de vue anglophone et francophone par Emmanuelle Sibeud : "Du postcolonialisme au questionnement postcolonial : pour un transfert critique" (Revue d'Histoire Moderne et Contemporaine, 2007/4, vol. 54-4, pp. 142-155). On peut l'acheter sous forme téléchargeable à partir du portail de revues CAIRN.
. La Situation postcoloniale. Les postcolonial studies dans le débat français. Marie-Claude Smouts (dir.), Presses des Sciences Po, 2007. Volume clé pour situer le débat français. Il rassemble des auteurs de différentes disciplines, parmi lesquels les voix le plus marquantes de ce débat, et il fournit une bibliographie anglophone et francophone tsélective rès bien choisie et structurée. Outil important pour une culture théorique actuelle sur la question.
